Jeff Gordon's second place finish is what the 24 team
needed to boost its confidence for the chase. Just a few weeks ago the talk was that this team was out
of the top ten. Three races till Richmond, the cut off point for the chase and they are sitting pretty good right now. What a
difference a few weeks make.
Gordons teammate Jimmy Johnson came back once
again from tire problems early. On the very first lap he suffered a right-front
tire that went flat forcing the team to pit under green putting him back in the
field. He fought his way back to the front only to have another tire leak late
in the race and ended up 13th.
The biggest loser in the top 10 has to be Jeff Burton. After starting from the pole he suffered a blown engine 17 laps into
Sundays race. Burton fell five spots to ninth in points. He is 35 points ahead
of Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Reed Sorenson led the rookies with a eight place
finish. Sorenson is third in ROY race.
