What look like to be a long day for Jeff Gordon
turned into an fairly decent finish fore the 24 team. Gordon suffered a broken
sway bar just eight laps into the race and had to pull in the pits to have it
repaired. That would put him 3 laps down, but thanks to the lucky dog rule he
was able to get back on the lead lap and finish 16th keeping him from falling
out of the Top 10 for the chase.
Jeff Burton look to be the car to beat leading 87
laps but he failed to leads the one that means the most, the final lap. He faded
back to 15th after the handling went away on his Cingular Chevy which ended his
streak of Top 10 finishes. He still is 3rd in the points. His teammate Clint Bowyer had a better day when her finished fourth when he came in on pit road
during a caution with the leaders who took on 4 tires while Bowyer took on
right sides and restarted the race in sixth giving him his best career finish.
Dale Earnhardt Jr was also in a gambling move
Sunday. The bud crew decided to stay out on lap 143 while the leaders pitted for
tires. Earnhardt who was running in the back of field most of day brought home a
sixth place finish moving him into the Top 10 with 5 races left till the cut
off for the chase.
Kasey Kahne was knocked out of the Top 10 to 11th
in the points after his Dodge got loose and slammed the wall after he tried to
avoid sliding into the 20 car of Tony Stewart on the last lap.
