Jeff Gordon's wait for his third career Bud Pole at Bristol Motor Speedway took a little longer than he expected.

Gordon's lap of 127.597 mph Friday was the fastest of the first 27 cars on the track, but a thunderstorm caused a delay of over an hour before qualifying resumed.

Mark Martin came closest to knocking Gordon off the pole, turning a lap of 127.588 mph to share the front row for Saturday night's Sharpie 500.

Michael Waltrip, Mike Skinner and Kurt Busch completed the top five. Dale Earnhardt Jr. who 2nd in points starts 9th and points leader Matt Kenseth is 10th.
